briefly today, my friend ricardo and i discussed sexual partners, as in how many is too many. but that’s not the point (is there a number as TOO MANY? i doubt it).
hours later, working on my car (how manly does that sound?!), and think about this for a bit longer than i should’ve.
question is: number of sexual partners - how do you count threesomes, orgies, group sex? as one, or whichever the number of people who you had sex with at that time?
this is the math of slutting around…
He’s a really good author. Jennifer Government was a really good read, and I just finished Company. But Syrup is being filmed?!?!?!?!
yes, SYRUP is being made into a movie!! isn’t that exciting?!
years ago, over at the chuck palahniuk website, the site’s book suggestion was max barry’s JENNIFER GOVERNMENT which i figured, why not read it and it was pretty damn amazing. afterward, i was able to find SYRUP, and then read COMPANY, both of which i also really liked. but SYRUP has something i really like and what that is is heart.
not that his other two books don’t have heart, you see, but barry’s SYRUP reads the way walking out on the beach feels. Scat and 6 make such a strange pair, not because they’re constantly battling their feelings toward the other, no, but each is an end to the perceived-success spectrum in marketing which unfortunately is what burgeoning relationships are about. 6 is everything Scat thinks he wants and wants to be; Scat is what Scat thinks 6 doesn’t ever want. but it isn’t some sort of screwball comedy; Scat is not an everyman, you know this from the start, and in his navigating through a world most of us would really like to avoid, he seems to find not just *the* girl, but also, ludicrously, his place in this world. SYRUP is funnier than i’m making it sound and it’s well worth a read…if you like art and marketing.
also, there is a girl named @ in it.
max barry’s new book MACHINE MAN is out in august and there is a short excerpt over at i09 (i did not read it: i hate ‘trailers’ for books), and supposedly darren aronofsky is going to make it, so talk about nerd universes colliding!
